FETCH PET INSURANCE
pet insurance oregon

In New York City, Fetch by the Dodo is a pet insurance company that covers veterinary bills for pet owners.

Chris and Natasha Ashton founded Fetch in September 2003 after experiencing a high veterinary bill. The Petplan brand in the United States was licensed exclusively to Fetch Inc. in November 2003. The company began selling its first policies in July 2006, and later in the year started selling policies online. By 2014, the company had formed partnerships with animal shelters, veterinarians, and health insurance providers to sell 120,000 policies.

The company launched fetch!fetch!fetch! in November 2008, a glossy quarterly pet health magazine.

Petplan hired Paul Guyardo as its new CEO in 2019. The same year, the company was acquired by private equity firm Warburg Pincus. It had 200 employees and annual sales of $130 million at the time. A mobile app allows for communication and access to insurance plans since the acquisition.

The Dodo acquired a minority stake in Petplan in 2020, renaming it Fetch by the Dodo.

Products/Services

Petplan offers pet insurance in the United States. The insurance covers cats and dogs beginning at six weeks of age, with benefits ranging from $2,500 to unlimited annually. Coverage was extended during the COVID-19 pandemic. Treatment of a covid-infected pet, boarding of a pet for an infected owner, adding a pet guardian to a plan, and all virtual vet visits were included with the new service.

Healthy Paws PET INSURANCE

PET INSURANCE OREGON

About Healthy Paws

Our rating of the Best Pet Insurance Companies of 2022 places Healthy Paws at the top. Healthy Paws started in 2009 as Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation, a nonprofit created to help pet owners with the financial obligations of caring for their pets as well as supporting animal rescue organizations.

Healthy Paws insurance works with the global insurance broker Aon Corporation, and its pet insurance plans are issued by the Chubb Group. You can cover your pets for accidents, illnesses, cancer, emergency care, genetic conditions, dental care, and alternative treatments like acupuncture and chiropractic with Healthy Paws insurance.

Pros:

  • There are no restrictions or limits on coverage.
  • The policy covers breed-specific conditions such as hip dysplasia
  • as well as alternative care options like chiropractic and acupuncture

Cons:

  • No wellness insurance
  • One-time membership fee
  • No discounts for multiple pets

The Healthy Paws Pet Insurance plan provides coverage for accidents, illnesses, and injuries for dogs and cats, including emergency care, cancer treatment, breed-specific conditions, and genetic and congenital conditions. The plan has no limitations or caps.

There is no coverage for typical vet check-ups, vaccinations, or preventative care like dental cleanings with Healthy Paws.

While the premiums are competitive with other Best Pet Insurance Companies of 2022 policies we rate, there is a one-time enrollment fee of $25 when you enroll your pet. Furthermore, Healthy Paws does not offer multipet discounts, so you must pay the full price for every animal enrolled in a plan in your household.

Aside from comprehensive medical, illness, and accident coverage, Healthy Paws also offers alternative services. Enrollment and filing claims can be done online or via the Healthy Paws app. The majority of claims are processed within 10 days and paid within 24 hours. All you have to do is take a picture of the invoice and upload it.

Healthy Paws Offers Plans

Health Paws’ comprehensive coverage includes treatment for new accidents and illnesses, as well as hereditary and congenital conditions (after a waiting period) and chronic conditions. Health Paws’ comprehensive coverage includes cancer treatment and diagnostic treatment. By purchasing Healthy Paws insurance, pet owners can reduce the cost of hospitalization, medication, and emergency and specialty care.

Healthy Paws provides coverage of alternative therapies such as acupuncture and chiropractic care for animals. The downside is that vet exams are not covered.

Healthy Paws coverage kicks in after a waiting period in most states. You must enroll your pet in the plan for 15 days before submitting an accident or illness claim, and for 12 months if your pet is older than six. New Hampshire and Maryland do not require waiting periods for accidents or illnesses.

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance does not cap payouts, incident caps, annual caps, or lifetime caps.

What does Healthy Paws Pet Insurance cover?

The Healthy Paws Pet Insurance program allows owners to pay a monthly or annual premium to cover the cost of veterinarian care, such as accidents, illness, emergency care, cancer, and medication. Health insurance for pets is similar to human health insurance in that it includes premiums, deductibles, and caps. The plan does not cover pre-existing conditions or most wellness-related expenses, such as vet exams, dental cleanings, and vaccinations.

Global insurance broker Aon Affinity offers a specialty program called Healthy Paws. Today, many pet insurance companies are partnered with major insurance brokerages.

In addition to veterinarian wellness checks, vaccinations, preventive care, and teeth cleaning, you will still be responsible for paying out-of-pocket for a Healthy Paws Pet Insurance policy. In general, a policy will not cover your pet’s pre-existing condition if it is present at the time of enrollment.

There are exceptions to the rule, which is why you should review a Healthy Paws sample pet insurance policy and read the fine print. If the animal is enrolled before the age of six, the company will cover hip dysplasia in dogs.

However, if your dog or cat is covered by a Healthy Paws insurance plan and should get into an accident, become ill, require emergency or specialty care, be diagnosed with cancer, or need medications, a Healthy Paws insurance plan will help cover the cost. Consider co-pays, limitations, and exclusions before purchasing pet health insurance.
