Taking precautions to find the right insurance company is essential when you need to insure your most valuable assets. There are some upstart property and casualty insurers that offer similar services to their established counterparts. Fidelity National Financial (FNF), a leading finance and mortgage company based in Jacksonville, Florida, has an offshoot called Stillwater Insurance Group.
After several years of acquisitions, the property and casualty division of FNF was rebranded as Stillwater Insurance Group in 2016.
This company offers multiple lines of insurance, such as auto and home insurance, in all 50 states and is able to customize coverage to meet your needs.
Stillwater auto insurance
While Stillwater Insurance has only been around for 20 years and is considered a relatively new insurance company, its auto insurance policy offers a variety of coverage options at a reasonable price. The process of securing your vehicle with Stillwater’s car insurance policy is straightforward regardless of your current insurance status.
Coverage types
Stillwater offers a variety of typical auto insurance coverage options, including:
-
Liability coverage: Liability coverage protects you against damages to other vehicles, people, or property when you are at fault in an accident. Liability coverage is mandatory in almost all states.
-
If your vehicle is damaged in a collision, collision coverage pays for the expenses.
-
Expenses associated with theft, vandalism, weather, or a run-in with an animal, such as a deer, are covered by this option. Comprehensive coverage is also known as “other than collision” coverage.
-
A personal injury protection policy (PIP) pays medical expenses for you and your passengers after an accident. Some states require it.
-
In case your vehicle is not drivable due to an insured loss, this optional coverage pays for the cost of a rental car.
-
Assistance on the road: Optional coverage for roadside assistance can cover jump starts, towing, locksmiths, and tire changes.
Deals
In addition to offering affordable rates, Stillwater car insurance also offers a variety of discounts, including:
-
Buying multiple policies with the company, such as auto and home insurance.
-
Multiple vehicles: Insuring more than one vehicle with Stillwater.
-
For a vehicle that has anti-theft and safety features.
-
A clean driving record: For being a safe driver.
-
Good student: Full-time students with a B average or higher GPA.
-
Full payment: For paying your annual premium in one lump sum.
Home insurance in Stillwater
In addition to homeowners insurance, Stillwater offers auto insurance. Covering your house with Stillwater is simple and affordable.
Coverage types
You can choose from a number of standard coverage options with Stillwater home insurance, including:
-
Coverage for your home and attached structures in the event of severe weather, fire or other perils.
-
Detached structures: Coverage for detached structures such as a barn or shed.
-
Your personal property includes furniture, electronics, clothing, and other belongings you own.
-
Loss of use: You are covered for additional living expenses if your house becomes uninhabitable due to a covered claim.
Among the additional coverage options are:
-
Identity theft coverage: Recover your data if you are a victim of identity theft.
-
Homeowners, condo and renters policies offer this optional liability coverage that provides coverage for slander, libel, detention, false arrest, and wrongful eviction.
-
The replacement cost coverage pays for the rebuilding cost of your house, even if it exceeds the market value.
-
Back-up of a sewer or drain line: Pays for expenses incurred due to water damage caused by back-up.
Discretions
It is always a good thing to be able to reduce your premium by taking advantage of available discounts, even though Stillwater is known for having reasonable rates. Stillwater offers a variety of discounts, including:
-
Discounts are offered to policyholders who are claims-free for a certain number of years.
-
You get a discount if your house is equipped with safety features such as sprinklers, smoke and burglar alarms, storm shutters or reinforced roofing.
-
When you combine your auto and home insurance policies, you save money.
-
If your home was just built or is under 10 years old, you might be able to save some money.
-
When you choose to carry a higher deductible amount, you may be able to save money on your insurance premiums. If you file a claim, you should make sure you can afford the higher deductible since the out-of-pocket expenses will be greater.
Stillwater is a good choice because of these reasons
It can be difficult to find affordable insurance, and if your credit is bad or if you have lapses in your coverage, you may struggle to find options that are affordable. With Stillwater Insurance, coverage is available to all without breaking the bank, and even in its short time in the industry, the company has established a reputation for being an affordable insurer that offers all the options. In addition to being available across the country, the policies might also differ based on location.
Stillwater might not be the best option for you if you’re looking for robust coverage. In addition, the standard property insurance policy excludes personal liability coverage (although it can be added as an option) and medical payments coverage, and the personal property coverage excludes computers.
STILLWATER INSURANCE REVIEWS – TOP 10
“This is based off first claim filed with homeowners insurance. Process can be lengthy as expected, but the adjuster I was assigned stayed in communication throughout the process. Professional and friendly.”
“I had a policy on my home for 4 years prior to being denied a claim for a fire in my shop in May of 2021. Stillwater and their attorney, a very rude individual in himself, determined that my hobby woodworking was a business since I had received over $2000 in repayment from family and friends for lumber. This company only cares about taking your money and not helping you when you need them even when you have paid your premiums in good faith for years prior.”
“What a complete waste of money using Stillwater for so many years. I just had my first claim and told them up front that I did not believe the issue to be one of vandalism. They sent the adjuster and then they came back to me after to get my recorded testimonial regarding the incident and said that unfortunately this 15k in damage will not be covered. As if that wasn’t bad enough they didn’t tell me that this particular report would count as a claim that I filed. Meaning Future Insurance will go up as a result of it. Why would they have told me they were not going to cover me up afront? Instead they put me in even worse position. Stillwater the absolute worst company and I’ve had to deal with regarding Insurance shame on you… not to mention that they never called me back after several messages. I had to reach out at least seven times to get them to talk to me. Absolute joke”
“Stillwater Homeowners Insurance is a joke! I just heard back from them on my claim from the storm we just had. They paid for nothing! The little money they are sending me they are keeping most of it for the deductible. If you have {REDACTED WORD} I mean Stillwater I suggest you look for a new company. I can’t find a new company fast enough!”
“Claims adjusters and supervisors do not answer their phones or return calls do not buy a policy with this insurance company.”

“Expressly told agent that we DO have dogs. They sent the insurance contract, dogs weren’t listed. Called to have it corrected, learn that this company doesn’t cover certain breeds. No problem, we would find a company that does. However, we had to spend 20 minutes on the phone being argued with about canceling our policy. Representative implied that we could”
“Stillwater does not have auto payment. Stillwater failed to handle my claim. Stillwater did not help me or pay me even though I contested the claim. Stillwater stated since the HOA put a temp patch, the constitutes as work being done, therefore they will not fix the problem and I will have to work with the HOA to resolve the problem.”
“In February 2019 I experienced windstorm damage. A claim was put in with leaks to my garage, kitchen, Living room and Den area. Stillwater had two of their own adjusters inspect my claim, the first one low balled my claim, my public adjuster fought that and they sent another adjuster who saw the damage and wrote a more satisfying inspection, then Stillwater sent a Engineer out who chopped down the claim as they were paid to do by Stillwater. To send a third person out not only to inspect but to discredit their own adjusters findings is very shady. I looked up reviews on Stillwater and they do not like to payout for claims. I will search for a new homeowners policy. Homeowners stay away from this company!”
“The entire process from the start has been very smooth and positive. The price and coverage of our policy is excellent. The only thing I would recommend is for the company to update their website and make it a bit more user friendly and easier to make payments.”
“Great rates and insurance. I just wish on the auto they offered monthly payments. I was only allowed to pay every 3 months.”

I would rate the Stillwater insurance, a Geico plan less than 1 star if I can, they took about month to respond after the insurance adjuster reviewed the water damage in my house with no clear outline of the impending process by the agent. We submitted a contractor quote of $13 K and Stillwater ultimately said they cant pay anything as the water damage has happened over a few weeks, I have a fully carpeted 1st floor and there is no way to say when the water damage started, we only bought this house a year back had a very thorough inspection done with no damage at all and there is no way their claim is right. I would definitely change my insurance plan immediately and recommend everyone to choose better plans out there. I wish I knew how mediocre this company was upfront, please don’t waste your time with Stillwater or Geico home insurance.

Had a small homeowner’s claim denied by the most incompetent ‘office-based’ adjuster who took a very long time to act on our claim.
